The Brave Father, Halabja Tragedy Courage Symbol!

Omar Abdullah Hussain is one of the victims of Halabja Tragedy. Shaik Omar has only one child; the child that he was holding during the chemical attack on Halabja on March 16, 1988. As demonstrated in this photo that was taking on March 16, 2012 in the Halabja Monument, a man holding his son trying to protect him from the chemical attack. This courage man got away from his home hopping to reach the safe area to save his child, but sadly they both couldn’t make it and both died on the street near their house… About 2 minutes from their actual house.
Halabja people have regarded this man as a courage symbol of Halabja to show how brave they’re though they’re attacked by chemical weapons.

I took this photo using Raw format and Manual Mode because the room was dark. Therefore, this picture is modified using Photoshop Raw Converter.

Firewood Maker | Actual People of Suli

Kaka Othman is a Kurdish old man who has a small kiosk where he makes firewood. When I first saw him, I thought that he’s a carpenter, and I also thought that there was a door between his simple tools for a bigger shop . Unfortunately, this energetic old man has only these simple tools that he uses to make his living with a small room where he stores his tools and rest at night. This picture was taken while he was showing me the kind of work he does. He told me that this is the only work that he’s good at, and he’s thankful that many people buy firewood from him nowdays due to the cold weather. His shop is located near Baranan bazar; the Bazae where I usually pass through without even relaizing that there are many poor people who would be happy by just caring about them. Today, I draw a smile on his face and saw a face full with hope though the hard condition and circumstances he has.

Because of the lack of communication and difference in languages, I couldn’t go further in this conversation although I was interested to know more about him. He was so nice to me and this picture is a part of a series of pictures that I took for a photojournalism class.

Identity Of a Skydiver

When I first saw skydivers in Sulaimani, I thought they’re foreings and not local people. However, when I went to Sulaimani top view, I was surprised by the flag on the parachute, and amazed by the skydivers who spoke Arabic, Kurdish, and English. It’s was nice to see such parachutists who took advantage of the strong winds at that day. They were friendly and got help from the people who were already up there in Azmar, the people also spoke both languages, Arabic and Kurdish language.

This is a semi-black and white photo !! 🙂

Suli View… sunlight on a city of hope, peace, and love |

This is how Sulaimani looks like from Azmar. If you could see that Suli is a small city that is circled by a street that is called “Shastee,” which means “60” in Kurdish. A long time ago, this street was almost the borders of this city, but now after long years of struggle and injustice, Suli has been improving and developing itself ever since.

When I first started my small project “Sulaimani from my perspective,” I decided to show the world how I see Sulaimani, specifically the beauty of its nature and landscape. I was planning to take shots of Suli from unique places; however, this place ain’t a unique because almost everyone in the city have seen such view before. But I’ve got to say that I adore this view, and I’ve got to include it in my project.
